The Battle of Flowers Foundation has secured a significant boost for its educational programs with a generous $1 million endowment from The Mays Family Foundation. This announcement, which coincides with Alamo Day, will be made public during a livestream event on March 15, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. local time. Should there be any delays with the livestream, updates will be available later in the day.
This funding is aimed at ensuring the foundation’s long-term mission to preserve the rich traditions of Texas and San Antonio. According to a press release from the foundation, the endowment will facilitate the expansion of scholarship opportunities, support teacher training, and enhance educational programs, including the “Day at the Alamo” and field trips to the Texas History Museum. The foundation emphasized that this financial support will play a critical role in protecting its legacy.
On the same day as the announcement, approximately 900 students from across Texas will participate in the School Day at the Alamo event. This gathering is designed to connect students with the historical significance of the Alamo and is supported by the Battle of Flowers Foundation. The event will take place at the Alamo Plaza de Valero, located at 300 Alamo Plaza in downtown San Antonio.
The Battle of Flowers Foundation continues to be a pivotal player in promoting education and historical awareness in Texas. By securing this endowment, it aims to ensure that future generations can continue to engage with and learn from the state’s rich cultural heritage.
