David Hope has been officially appointed as president of Queen’s University Medical Group and senior vice president of Queen’s Health Systems. This announcement, made on October 20, 2023, confirms his role after several months serving in the position on an interim basis. Hope’s leadership comes at a critical time as the health system focuses on enhancing coordination among its hospitals and clinics.
Leadership and Responsibilities
In his new role, Hope will oversee more than 700 employed providers across Queen’s hospital campuses and ambulatory sites. His responsibilities include managing professional-service agreements that connect Queen’s with community physicians, which is vital for ensuring that specialists and primary care providers work collaboratively. Additionally, Hope is expected to play a significant role in Queen’s partnership with the University of Hawaiʻi John A. Burns School of Medicine, supporting clinical education and training for future healthcare professionals in the region.
Background and Experience
Hope initially stepped into the top position at Queen’s University Medical Group in July 2025. Before joining Queen’s, he held the role of vice president of physician services at Meritus Health. His previous experience also includes nine years at Wake Forest Baptist Health, where he managed large clinical networks, equipping him with valuable insights into healthcare administration.
The significance of this appointment comes as Queen’s Health Systems is investing heavily in building clinical capacity and enhancing care coordination. Recently, The Queen’s Medical Center was recognized as the top hospital in Hawaiʻi by U.S. News & World Report. With Hope now officially in charge, leadership aims to strengthen the alignment between everyday clinical operations and the academic training that supplies many of the state’s healthcare providers.
As the health system continues to evolve, Hope’s experience and leadership will play a crucial role in meeting the challenges ahead while ensuring high-quality care for the community.
