Donna Maria Hoyem Babbs, a beloved member of her community, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 4, 2025, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was 85 years old. Born on August 25, 1940, in Alhambra, California, Donna’s life was marked by resilience, dedication to her family, and a commitment to serving others.
After the death of her father, Carl Hoyem, at a young age, her mother, Evelyn Farrell, remarried Donald H. Jones, who played a significant role in raising Donna and her siblings. The family relocated to North Tustin during Donna’s teenage years. She graduated from Mater Dei High School and later attended Orange Coast College, where she began to carve out a life dedicated to supporting students.
For 13 years, Donna served as the student loan and due diligence officer for the Coast Community College District. After retiring, she and her husband, Donald (Don) Babbs, traveled extensively, exploring various cultures and landscapes across the globe. Their adventures were complemented by Donna’s active involvement in local charitable organizations. She was deeply committed to her Christian faith, seeking to uplift those in need through her volunteer work.
Donna’s family life was equally vibrant. Survived by her husband of 65 years, Donald Lee Babbs, she leaves behind three daughters, Leigh Anne Nanci, Kelly Babbs, and Kristal Babbs, along with her son-in-law, Thomas Nanci. Her legacy extends to three grandchildren—Joseph Nanci (married to Kimberly), Jessica Greubel (married to John), and Johnathan Babbs (married to Charlotte)—and seven great-grandchildren. Additionally, she is survived by her brother, Richard Jones, and sisters-in-law, Susan Hoyem, Benita Jones, and Liza (Hoyem) Haynes. Her brothers, Carl (Jack) Hoyem and William Hoyem, preceded her in death.
