Michael Stuhlbarg Calls Tom Cruise’s New Film the ‘Craziest’ Project

Acclaimed actor Michael Stuhlbarg has described his experience filming alongside Tom Cruise in the upcoming project directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu as the “craziest thing” he has ever done. The film, tentatively titled Judy, is set to be released in theaters on October 2, 2026, positioning itself as a highly anticipated addition to Iñárritu’s impressive filmography following his success with The Revenant in 2015.

In a recent interview with the SAG-AFTRA Foundation, Stuhlbarg revealed that the filming process was notably extensive, marking it as his longest shoot to date. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate with such an “extraordinary” ensemble of talent. Stuhlbarg, known for his roles in Call Me By Your Name and other acclaimed films, emphasized the uniqueness of this project.

Behind the Scenes of a Unique Film Project

Stuhlbarg shared insights into the filmmaking experience, highlighting the dedication of the cast and crew. “That’s the craziest thing I’ve ever been a part of in my life. It’s fantastic. … It’s an extraordinary group of people,” he stated. His commitment to the project was evident as he worked from October through May, underscoring the passion that Iñárritu has for the film, which he has been developing for several years.

The actor praised the determination of the young talent involved, noting, “To be in that sort of proximity to those kinds of kids was really fun. Talk about willpower. Just the fact that the film was made to begin with, and to watch the power and tenacity that all of those artists had who created that piece.” Stuhlbarg expressed excitement for the film’s eventual release, stating, “I’m so anxious for people to see it. I can’t say much more than that, but it was a privilege.”

A Star-Studded Ensemble

The film features a remarkable ensemble cast that includes Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde, Riz Ahmed, and Emma D’Arcy, among others. Stuhlbarg’s remarks reflect the high expectations surrounding the project, which is not only produced by Cruise and Iñárritu but also benefits from the expertise of cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki and editor Conor O’Neill.

As anticipation builds for Judy, both Stuhlbarg’s enthusiasm and the caliber of talent involved suggest a film that could resonate well with audiences worldwide. With its unique premise and dedicated creative team, the project is poised to make a significant impact upon its release.
