Macaulay Culkin Celebrates ‘Home Alone’ Legacy with Children

Macaulay Culkin recently reflected on his role in the beloved holiday classic, Home Alone, during a special screening at the Academy Museum in Los Angeles. The event celebrated the film’s 35th anniversary and provided Culkin an opportunity to discuss not only the movie’s enduring charm but also its impact on his family life.

During a Q&A session alongside director Chris Columbus, Culkin revealed that his two children, Dakota, aged 4, and Carson, aged 3, are enthusiastic fans of the film. They refer to it simply as “Kevin,” the name of his character, rather than by its title. “They’re like, ‘Wow, Kevin’s really funny,’” Culkin noted, adding with humor, “He’s also handsome, somebody that your mom might be into.”

Despite their admiration for the character, Culkin has chosen not to disclose to his children that he is, in fact, Kevin McCallister. “I try to keep the magic alive,” he explained. He shared an anecdote where his eldest son, upon seeing an old family photo, mistook him for Kevin, asking, “Who’s that? That looks like Kevin.”

Culkin’s journey in the entertainment industry has been marked by significant milestones, including receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in December 2023. Reflecting on his experience filming Home Alone, he recalled how, as a nine-year-old, he aimed to be both professional and charming. During his acceptance speech, he expressed gratitude to his partner, actress Brenda Song, stating, “You’ve given me all my purpose. You’ve given me family.”

Culkin and Song first met in 2014 but reconnected when they co-starred in the 2019 comedy Changeland. They became engaged in January 2022, with sources indicating their excitement about their future together.

Since becoming a parent, Culkin’s perspective on Home Alone has evolved. He now finds himself identifying with the character played by Catherine O’Hara, who desperately attempts to reunite with her son. “I watch my kids’ reactions instead of the movie itself,” he said. “It makes me really proud to be a part of something like that.”

Culkin highlighted the generational connection to the film, noting, “You guys were raised on it, and now you’re raising your kids on it. It means something completely different now.” His reflections underscore the lasting impact of Home Alone, which continues to resonate with audiences young and old alike.

As the conversation about Home Alone continues, Culkin’s insights remind fans of the film’s magic, not just as a holiday staple but as a cherished family experience that transcends generations.
