In a statement provided to Fox Digital, an FBI spokesperson explained that investigators discovered a total of 16 pairs of gloves during their searches. Among these, one particular pair has garnered attention due to its potential connection to the unidentified individual captured on video. The gloves were located approximately 2 miles from Guthrie’s residence in a field adjacent to the road.
The spokesperson noted that the gloves were collected by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department (PCSD) and sent to a private lab in Florida for analysis. The packaging and shipment occurred overnight on February 12, 2023, with the gloves arriving at the lab on February 13. Preliminary results were received by the FBI on February 14, with further quality control checks underway before submitting the unidentified male DNA profile to CoDIS, the FBI’s national DNA database.
According to the FBI, most of the gloves collected were discarded by searchers during their efforts to comb the area surrounding Guthrie’s home. However, the gloves of particular interest, which appear to match those of the suspect in the surveillance video, stand apart from the others. The FBI affirmed its commitment to assisting in the investigation as new information becomes available.
