David Beckham received the prestigious title of knighthood from King Charles III during a ceremony at Windsor Castle on November 4, 2025. The former soccer star expressed deep gratitude for the honor, describing it as a profoundly emotional experience for him and his family. “It’s been a very emotional week. I wasn’t nervous, just emotional, as it means so much to me and my family,” Beckham shared in an interview with People.
Accompanied by his wife, Victoria Beckham, and three of their four children—sons Romeo, 23, and Cruz, 20, and daughter Harper, 14—David celebrated the momentous occasion with his loved ones. His eldest son, Brooklyn, 26, and Brooklyn’s wife, Nicola Peltz, were not present for the investiture.
Beckham’s Service to Sport and Charity Recognized
David Beckham was knighted as “Sir David Beckham” in recognition of his significant contributions to both sport and charitable organizations. He wore a custom suit designed by Victoria for the event, showcasing her talent as a fashion designer. Reflecting on his honor, Beckham stated, “I couldn’t be prouder. People know how patriotic I am—I love my country.”
Beckham further emphasized the importance of the monarchy to his family, noting that his travels have often led others to discuss the British royal family. “It makes me proud,” he remarked. The former England captain also humorously noted that King Charles appeared “quite impressed” by his attire, which was inspired by the monarch’s previous styles.
A Dream Realized and Family Support
The announcement of Beckham’s knighthood was made in the 2025 King’s Birthday Honors list, released in June. He reflected on his upbringing in East London, expressing how he never imagined receiving such an honor. “To have played for and captained my country was the greatest privilege of my career and literally a boyhood dream come true,” he said in a statement.
Following the ceremony, Beckham’s son Romeo took to social media to congratulate his father, writing, “No one deserves this more than you, love you so much xxx Congrats Sir dad 😂 @davidbeckham.”
The retired athlete also highlighted his commitment to charitable work, stating, “Off the pitch, I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to represent Britain around the world and work with incredible organizations that are supporting communities in need and inspiring the next generation.”
As he embraces this new title, Beckham acknowledges the emotional weight of the moment for his family. “I’m immensely proud, and it’s such an emotional moment for me to share with my family,” he concluded.
Following this honor, Victoria Beckham will now be styled as “Lady Victoria Beckham,” marking a new chapter in their family legacy.
