A new exhibit titled “ART: My Life’s Legacy” by artist Dan Fraley is currently on display at the Johnson Center for the Arts in Troy, Alabama. This showcase highlights Fraley’s diverse artistic journey and contributions to the community, offering visitors a glimpse into both his life and the human experience.
Fraley’s background is as varied as his artistic expression. He began his career as a resident artist in Troy during the 1973-74 school year and graduated from Troy University in 1977. His life experiences span serving in the U.S. Marines, working at Disney World, and performing as a musician in a left-handed dulcimer band. Each of these roles has influenced his creative output, making his art a reflection of a rich and multifaceted life.
Throughout his career, Fraley has made significant contributions to the local arts scene. He founded the Jean Lake Art Show and collaborated with the Troy Arts Council to organize TroyFest, an annual arts festival that celebrates local talent. His commitment to the arts extends beyond exhibitions; he established an Arts in Prison Program through the Alabama Arts and Humanities Council, aiming to rehabilitate and inspire individuals through creativity.
In addition to his artistic endeavors, Fraley is deeply involved in community service. He has dedicated over ten years to the Pike County Jail Ministry, and currently serves as Chaplain for both the Pike County Gideons and American Legion Post 70. His contributions to the community are not limited to art; he also initiated the first soccer leagues in Troy, promoting youth engagement through sports.
Fraley’s personal life is equally vibrant. He is married to Sue Lightfoot Fraley and is a proud father to two sons, David and Lucas. His family continues to grow, with five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, enriching his life further.
