Blackduck Winter Fun Fest Set to Boost Snowmobile Race Participation

Organizers of the upcoming Blackduck Winter Fun Fest are optimistic about increasing participation in the third annual Blackduck Stumpjumpers’ snowmobile drag races. Scheduled for January 24, 2016, they aim to attract between 75 and 80 riders, a significant jump from the approximately 40 participants who competed in the previous year’s event.

Historical Highlights from January 24

Reflecting on events from 25 years ago, the Bemidji High School girls basketball team achieved a memorable victory on January 24, 2001, inaugurating the new high school gymnasium. The team secured a last-second win against Brainerd, finishing the game with a score of 47-46. Lynnea Salscheider made the winning layup with just two seconds remaining, sealing the thrilling victory for the home team.

Fifty years prior, on January 24, 1976, the Bemidji Lumberjacks wrestling team prepared to defend its title at the Northwest Conference in Fergus Falls. With an impressive record in both dual meets and tournaments, the Lumberjacks entered the competition as favorites, while many of their league counterparts faced challenges throughout the season.

A Focus on Community Development

Looking back a century, on January 24, 1926, a meeting was held among farmers and businessmen in Kelliher to promote community development and advertise the region’s agricultural potential. This initiative marked a significant economic transition from timber to agriculture, highlighting the community’s commitment to exploring new opportunities for growth and sustainability.

As the Blackduck Winter Fun Fest approaches, it serves as a reminder of the rich history and evolving community spirit in the region. With hopes for increased participation in the snowmobile drag races, local organizers are gearing up for an exciting event that promises to draw both competitors and spectators alike.
