Gas prices in Florida have risen by an average of $0.20 per gallon as the Thanksgiving holiday approaches. According to data from AAA – The Auto Club Group, the average price at the pump reached $3.10 per gallon on Sunday, marking an increase from the previous week.
This recent rise in prices comes as part of a broader trend, with current figures showing an increase of $0.18 compared to last week, $0.15 compared to last month, and $0.02 compared to the same time last year. Notably, prices are identical to those recorded on Thanksgiving Day in 2024.
Market Variances Across Florida
Spokesman for AAA, Mark Jenkins, commented on the situation, noting that this price increase follows a series of declines in previous weeks. “If that pattern holds, drivers could see prices ease as they hit the road for Thanksgiving,” he stated. Jenkins highlighted that with pump prices matching last year’s holiday figures, even a slight decrease would provide travelers with additional savings compared to 2024.
Regional variations in gas prices are notable across Florida. The most expensive metropolitan areas include West Palm Beach-Boca Raton at $3.26 per gallon, Naples at $3.20, and Ocala at $3.17. In contrast, the least expensive markets are Crestview-Fort Walton Beach at $2.71, Pensacola at $2.73, and Panama City at $2.75.
Impact on Holiday Travel
Overall, while prices have risen, the potential for a decrease in the coming days could alleviate some of the financial burden for travelers planning to hit the road for the holiday season. As such, it remains to be seen how prices will fluctuate leading up to Thanksgiving, but current trends suggest a mixed bag for motorists.
