Long-Time Northbrook Resident Irene Dettmers Passes Away at 88

Irene B. Dettmers, a long-time resident of Northbrook, Illinois, passed away on January 6, 2026, at the age of 88. Her death followed a nine-and-a-half-year battle with lung cancer. Born to the late Vern and Ray Bennigsen, Irene was known for her strong family ties and community involvement.

Throughout her life, Irene cherished her roles as a mother and grandmother. She was married to the late Leonard Dettmers and also had significant relationships with the late Michael Feltes and the late Robert Cronin. Irene was preceded in death by her son, Robert Cronin, as well as her sister, Dorothy Pryor, and her brother, John Bennigsen.

Irene is survived by her children, Jerry Cronin and his wife Staci, and Beth Glass along with her husband Chris. She leaves behind six grandchildren: Connor and Natalie Cronin, Chris and Holly Cronin, and Brad and Blake Glass. In addition, she is survived by her stepchildren: Leigh Klobucar and her husband Jack, Laurie Dettmers and her husband Roger Kopecki, Jane Bakey and her husband Patrick, along with Michael Feltes and his wife Betsy, Linda Feltes, Laura Feltes, and Carolyn Feltes and her husband Doug DuFrane. Irene’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren held a particularly special place in her heart.

Visitation and Funeral Arrangements

Visitation for Irene Dettmers is scheduled for Saturday, February 28, 2026, from 09:00 to 10:00 at St. Norbert and Our Lady of the Brook Parish, located at 1809 Walters Avenue, Northbrook, IL 60062. The Mass will commence at 10:00.
