In a thrilling conclusion to the year, the Trinity boys’ soccer team triumphed over the Vasquez Mustangs with a score of 2-1, thanks to a last-minute goal from junior Landon Moberg. The decisive moment came just three minutes before the final whistle at Tesoro Park on December 17, 2025. Moberg’s goal not only secured the victory but also lifted the Knights’ spirits after two consecutive draws in their previous matches.
The game began with both teams demonstrating strong performances, ending the first half in a 1-1 tie. Max Nien opened the scoring for Trinity with a powerful strike from outside the box, only for Vasquez to quickly equalize. Moberg’s game-winning moment was a result of a long pass from midfield, allowing him to break through the Mustangs’ defense and confidently place the ball past the goalkeeper.
Trinity head coach Syian Wignal Sr. expressed his relief and excitement following the match, noting Moberg’s calm demeanor under pressure. “His composure was what gave him the opportunity,” Wignal stated. “It was a perfect time and a good sub.” The tactical shift to allow Moberg to play a more advanced role proved to be a game-changing decision.
Throughout the match, Trinity faced challenges, particularly during the first half when they missed several scoring chances from corner shots and headers. Nevertheless, their defense held strong, with a key play from Jacobo Paz, who prevented a potential goal by clearing a dangerous shot with a well-timed header. Wignal humorously remarked on Paz’s unexpected heroics, saying, “Jacobo came out of nowhere to clear that ball off the header.”
With this victory, the Trinity Knights remain undefeated in Heritage League play, finishing the calendar year on a high note. Wignal reflected on the team’s growth over the season, emphasizing the importance of matches like this one in building momentum. “It’s amazing to see the guys putting it together,” he said. “It’s been five years, and we’re finally starting to look like a team and continue to grow and develop.”
As the team looks ahead to the new year, Wignal expressed gratitude for the victory and emphasized the need for continued improvement. “We’re going to be working on a lot of shooting this break,” he noted. The Knights will return to action on January 6, 2026, when they face the Palmdale Aerospace Academy at home, aiming to build on their recent success.
This match not only showcased the skill and determination of the Trinity Knights but also marked a significant step in their development as a cohesive unit on the field.
