Los Gatos Students Surge Past State Testing Standards

UPDATE: Students in the Los Gatos-Saratoga Union High School District have just exceeded state testing standards by a remarkable margin, according to a press release from the district. This year’s results showcase a significant achievement in both English and math, positioning the district among the best in California.

In the latest state testing, 84% of students in the district surpassed state standards in English Language Arts, compared to just 48.8% statewide and 59.8% in Santa Clara County. Similarly, 68% of juniors excelled in math, outpacing the county’s 53% and the state’s 37%. Additionally, nearly 60% of students exceeded science standards, significantly higher than the county’s 48% and the state average of 33%.

These outstanding results reflect the dedication and hard work of both students and staff, as highlighted by Superintendent Heath Rocha. “These results speak to the dedication and perseverance of our students and staff,” he stated. “While we’re incredibly proud of these achievements, we also recognize that state tests are just one measure of student success.”

The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress and the California Science Test are administered annually to students in grade 11, and this year’s rankings positioned Los Gatos-Saratoga as the No. 1 district in the state for English and No. 3 for math.

As the district celebrates these exceptional scores, it also addresses other pressing issues. Recently, Los Gatos High School launched a bike registration program aimed at enhancing safety on campus. This initiative, reported in Vice Mayor Rob Moore’s November newsletter, ensures that only registered bikes and legal e-bikes are allowed to park on school grounds. The program seeks to minimize the presence of illegal e-motorcycles both on campus and throughout the town.

Students must register their bikes to obtain a parking sticker and complete the school’s Bicycle Safety Program before receiving their permits. This program is free and aims to foster a safer environment for all students.

As developments continue in both educational achievements and safety measures, the Los Gatos-Saratoga Union High School District remains focused on supporting its students in multiple facets of their academic and personal lives. Stay tuned for more updates on this evolving story and the impact these initiatives will have on the community.
