It was sophomore Mackoy Hemmert who ignited the comeback, proclaiming, “These guys haven’t played their last game.” His words resonated with his teammates, who rallied around the sentiment that their seniors deserved a chance to continue their season.
In a remarkable turn of events, the Buffs executed a 16-3 run that forced the game into overtime. Hemmert, who had previously hit a crucial three-pointer in the regular season finale against the same opponent, once again stepped up. With just 4.4 seconds remaining in regulation, he made a clutch shot from the right wing, tying the game with a three-pointer as time expired.
