LeRoy Forehand, a distinguished World War II veteran and long-time resident of Torrance, California, passed away peacefully at the age of 101 on February 7, 2026. His legacy as a dedicated service member and community figure is remembered fondly by family and friends.
Born in Grinnell, Iowa, in 1924, LeRoy moved to southern California in 1941. He began his career at Lockheed Aircraft, working as an aircraft ordnance technician on the P-38 fighter planes. In August 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific theater during World War II. Notably, LeRoy held the position of Beach Master on Saipan in 1945, overseeing crucial operations during a pivotal time in the conflict.
After the war, LeRoy returned to southern California, where he continued his professional journey at TRW and later at CALTRANS, ultimately retiring after a long and fulfilling career.
Community Involvement and Honors
LeRoy’s commitment to service extended beyond his military career. He joined the Gardena Masonic Lodge in 1960 and achieved the rank of Master. His dedication to veterans’ affairs was evident through his active involvement with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), where he served on the Honor Guard at Post 1622 in Lomita for over 20 years. LeRoy was also a passionate supporter of the USS Iowa and frequently participated in the annual Torrance Armed Forces Day Parade, showcasing his pride in serving his country.
LeRoy is survived by his daughter, Ruth Ann Forehand, who will honor his memory alongside the community he touched throughout his life.
Memorial Services and Celebration of Life
A viewing for LeRoy will take place at Halverson, Stone and Myers Mortuary, located at 1223 Cravens Ave., Torrance, on Thursday, February 26, from 16:00 to 19:00. Following this, a memorial service will be held at the mortuary chapel on Saturday, February 28, at 10:00. LeRoy will be laid to rest at Green Hills Cemetery after the service.
A celebration of life will occur after the internment at Lomita VFW Post 1622, located at 1865 Lomita Blvd., providing an opportunity for friends and family to gather in remembrance of a man whose contributions to both his country and community will not be forgotten.
