A community in South Bend, Indiana, has come together to provide a brand-new vehicle for a local driver whose worn-out pickup truck captured widespread attention online. Marcellus “Mo” Riles, known for his beloved but battered truck, received a 2019 Chevy Silverado following a fundraising effort initiated by local business owner Colin Crowel.
On November 30, 2025, Crowel, who operates Carguys Auto Detailing, launched a GoFundMe campaign to assist Riles in acquiring a safer and more reliable vehicle. Within just one month, more than 500 generous donors contributed, raising over $22,000. This amount was sufficient to cover the cost of Riles’ new truck, marking a significant turnaround for the driver.
The moment of revelation took place at Gates Chevrolet in South Bend, where Riles was finally introduced to the vehicle funded by the collective efforts of his community. Overwhelmed with gratitude, Riles expressed, “God blessed me,” as he absorbed the reality of his new ride.
For Crowel, witnessing Riles receive the keys to the truck was a highlight of his career. “I’ve got to do a lot of amazing things. I think this is the top moment,” he stated, reflecting on the impact of the initiative.
Crowel’s motivation stemmed from a desire to assist Riles, particularly given the health challenges Riles has been facing. “We wanted to make sure that we take the load off his shoulders so he can heal and be comfortable,” Crowel explained. The new vehicle enables Riles to attend medical appointments, go to work, and run errands with the assurance that it will reliably start.
Additionally, Crowel noted that local auto shops have stepped up to offer maintenance support for Riles’ new truck, ensuring that it remains in good condition for years to come.
Riles, deeply appreciative of the community’s support, remarked, “It’s not about me — it’s about the efforts of a man who saw a stressful situation for another human being.” His story highlights the powerful impact of community solidarity and the difference that compassion can make in people’s lives.
The successful campaign not only provided Riles with a new vehicle but also reinforced the sense of unity and kindness within the South Bend community.
