Community Mourns the Loss of James L. Brimm at 94

Mr. James L. Brimm, a respected and cherished member of the Gallatin community, passed away on February 16, 2026, at the age of 94. His life was characterized by a deep commitment to his family, faith, and community, leaving a lasting legacy that touched many.

Funeral services for Mr. Brimm were held at the Crestview Funeral Home in Gallatin on February 20, with Bro. Dickie Johnson officiating. Following the service, he was laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Peggy Ann “Fella” McCrary Brimm, in the Crestview Cemetery. Peggy, who shared a loving partnership with Mr. Brimm for seventy years, passed away on April 16, 2020, at the age of 88.

Mr. Brimm was born on February 25, 1931, to the late James Bell “J. B.” Brimm and Maude Stanley Barnes Brimm. He outlived many family members, including his sister, Helen Estelle Brimm Barnes, who died on May 6, 2002, and his son-in-law, Stanley Hawkins, who passed away on October 23, 2021.

Military Service and Career

Mr. Brimm served his country as a military police officer in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. This service instilled in him a strong sense of integrity, which he carried into his civilian life. After returning home, he dedicated over 50 years to the Gallatin Post Office, becoming a familiar face and earning the respect of colleagues and patrons alike.

His commitment extended beyond work; he was a devoted member of Cairo United Methodist Church. As a song leader and Sunday school teacher, he shared his love for music and faith, influencing many in the congregation and instilling a deeper love for Jesus Christ in those he taught.

Legacy and Family

Inheriting the family farm, a legacy of over 100 years, Mr. Brimm took pride in working the land. He enjoyed activities such as bushhogging, raising cattle with his father, and cultivating tobacco. His work ethic and connection to his roots were sources of great pride.

A passionate sports fan, Mr. Brimm was a season ticket holder for Gallatin High School Football since 1974 and supported the team through all weather conditions. He also cherished moments spent square dancing with Peggy, whose memory provided comfort after her passing.

Mr. Brimm is survived by his children: Cindy Hawkins of Gordonsville, and Terri Bentley, John Brimm, and Mike Brimm, all residing in Gallatin. He leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each carrying a piece of his legacy. His grandchildren include Chris Hawkins, Rachel Alvis, Libby Boone, and many others, alongside great-grandchildren who are part of the extensive family tree.
