Carson City Chamber Celebrates 2026 Women of Distinction Honorees

The Carson City Chamber of Commerce will honor 11 remarkable women with the prestigious Woman of Distinction Award on March 25, 2026. This annual recognition takes place during Women’s History Month, which celebrates women’s contributions to society. Since its inception in 2020, the Chamber has honored a total of 43 outstanding women from diverse backgrounds who have made significant impacts within the community.

The Woman of Distinction Award acknowledges both working and retired women who have dedicated their lives to improving the well-being of others. These individuals are highly respected for their job performance, charitable efforts, volunteerism, and commitment to empowering women in Carson City.

Celebrating Women’s Contributions

March is designated as Women’s History Month in the United States, with March 8 recognized as International Women’s Day. The 2026 theme for this global celebration is “Give to Gain,” which highlights the importance of investing time and resources into women’s advancement. The women selected for this year’s awards embody this theme through their dedication to building a stronger Carson City.

Among this year’s honorees are:

– **Bekah Bock**, a trained social worker, has played a pivotal role in establishing the Carson City Mobile Outreach Sheriff’s Team (MOST). As a full-time employee, she works closely with trained officers to assist individuals in mental crises, emphasizing compassion and dignity.

– **Jeanne Freeman** serves as the director of Carson City Health and Human Services. Initially hired to lead the COVID-19 field response team, she was appointed deputy director in 2022 and later promoted to director. She oversees various programs aimed at promoting community health.

– **Angila Golik** has been a beloved teacher at Carson High since 2004 and has made significant contributions as the adviser for the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). Under her guidance, students launched a successful in-house business magazine, raising over **$70,000** for student programs.

– **Stephanie Hicks**, the deputy city manager for Carson City, ensures the smooth operation of various city departments. A certified planner, she also graduated from the Chamber’s Leadership Institute Class of 2024.

– **Janelle Hoover** is the vice president and chief nursing officer at Carson Tahoe Health, focusing on inpatient and crisis behavioral health services. Her commitment to youth mental health has made her an essential part of the hospital’s senior management team.

– **Dolly Kaur**, owner of Flavors of India, founded the Flavors Foundation to provide assistance for food, clothing, and rent to those in need. Her establishment serves as a community hub, emphasizing her belief in the importance of giving back.

– **Dr. Sandra Koch**, a retired obstetrician-gynecologist, has dedicated her career to improving women’s health and supporting local organizations, including the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada and Advocates To End Domestic Violence.

– **Lucia Maloney**, a small business owner, is the general manager of the Nevada State Prison Preservation Society, where she aims to transform the former prison into a historical attraction. She also leads the C-Hill Foundation, working to preserve the C-Hill flag.

– **Dr. Jan Marson**, a respected pediatric occupational therapist, founded the Carson City Rural Child Advocacy Center. Her work focuses on supporting children and families facing developmental challenges and mental health needs.

– **Teri Green-Preston**, a real estate professional and chair of the Carson City Chamber, has served on numerous local boards and commissions, actively contributing to community development.

– **Dana Ryan**, vice president of Academic and Student Affairs for Western Nevada College, is dedicated to creating programs that prepare students for emerging job markets and enhance educational access for adult learners.
