The Chief Minister of Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, inaugurated a modern Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at The Kidney Centre in Karachi on March 14, 2024. This state-of-the-art facility has been established through collaboration with the Sindh government, which announced a significant increase in the annual grant to the hospital, elevating it from PKR 300 million to PKR 500 million starting next fiscal year.
During the inauguration ceremony, which included health officials such as Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho and members of the hospital leadership, the Chief Minister also pledged funding for a new Cardiac Catheterization (Cath) Lab. This enhancement aims to further improve specialized medical services in the region, reflecting the government’s commitment to advancing healthcare infrastructure.
In his address to the media, Murad Ali Shah discussed various pressing issues, including national security. He highlighted that efforts to infiltrate from Afghanistan during nighttime operations had been effectively countered, emphasizing the unity of the nation against external threats.
On political matters, the Chief Minister responded to recent statements from the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), asserting that the Sindh Assembly has adopted a firm stance against rhetoric deemed unacceptable. He conveyed that he has communicated public concerns directly to both the President and Prime Minister. Although he recognized the role of the Governor, he noted that he has shared apprehensions about activities at the Governor’s House with the Prime Minister, clarifying that no formal discussions regarding a change of Governor had yet occurred.
Additionally, Murad Ali Shah condemned the recent actions of police in Umerkot, where allegations of mistreatment of women surfaced. He promised strict measures against those responsible for such conduct, underlining that such behavior is intolerable within the police force.
The Chief Minister concluded his remarks by urging media representatives to act responsibly, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan. He emphasized the importance of avoiding the spread of “fake news” and unverified information, reiterating his administration’s dedication to healthcare, labor rights, and ongoing development projects in Karachi.
As the government continues to navigate these challenges, independent journalism remains crucial in holding authorities accountable and promoting transparency in public welfare initiatives.
