Teresa King Kinney to Retire After 33 Years Leading MIAMI REALTORS®

Teresa King Kinney, a prominent figure in the real estate sector, has announced her retirement as CEO of the MIAMI Association of Realtors, effective at the end of the year. After serving for 33 years, Kinney will transition to the role of CEO Emeritus and assist in a one-year consulting agreement to ensure a smooth leadership change.

Kinney’s announcement, made public on February 20, 2026, marks the end of a remarkable era for one of the largest local Realtor associations in the United States. “These have been the most exciting years of my life so far,” Kinney remarked. She expressed confidence in leaving the organization in a position of strength, poised for future accomplishments.

Transformative Leadership and Global Impact

Under Kinney’s leadership, MIAMI evolved from a medium-sized association in the early 1990s into a highly innovative and award-winning organization. Kinney played a crucial role in promoting Miami’s distinct lifestyle on the global stage, showcasing the city at major international real estate events.

Her efforts have significantly increased global business influx into Miami, transforming it into a recognizable international brand. Kinney’s tenure saw MIAMI grow to encompass 60,000 members, exceeding the size of 44 state associations and establishing the fourth-largest Multiple Listing Service (MLS) in the U.S.

Alfredo Pujol, the 2026 MIAMI Chairman of the Board, praised Kinney’s dedication, stating, “Her work ethic and passion for the job are legendary.” He highlighted the impact of her leadership which has not only benefited MIAMI but also shaped the real estate profession at large.

A Legacy of Innovation and Resilience

Kinney’s influence on MIAMI is marked by numerous historic milestones. In 1996, MIAMI became the first major market to list properties online with the launch of Realtor.com. The following year, Kinney oversaw a landmark merger with the Miami-Dade County Association, creating the largest local Realtor association in the U.S. at that time, a record it still holds today.

Throughout her career, Kinney has embraced a philosophy of collaboration and agility. Her proactive approach enabled MIAMI to navigate challenges effectively, including the housing market recovery post-2008 and the swift transition to virtual operations during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As MIAMI approaches its 300th global partnership, Kinney’s initiatives have established an extensive Global Referral Network connecting local properties to over 2 million real estate professionals worldwide. This network not only enhances business opportunities for MIAMI members but also strengthens the local economy.

Kinney has received numerous accolades for her contributions, including recognition in the 2026 Swanepoel SP 200 as one of the top 200 influential figures in real estate. Her awards include the prestigious William R. Magel Award of Excellence from the National Association of Realtors (NAR) in 2019.

As she prepares to retire, Kinney’s legacy will extend beyond her impressive list of achievements. She has cultivated a progressive team that continues to push the boundaries of innovation within the real estate industry, ensuring MIAMI remains a leader in advocacy, education, and global outreach.

As Kinney reflects on her career, she emphasizes the importance of the leaders who have come before her, stating, “We stand on the shoulders of giants.” Her commitment to maintaining MIAMI’s global legacy sets a high standard for her successor, who will be tasked with continuing the association’s upward trajectory.

The MIAMI Association of Realtors was established in 1920 and has been at the forefront of real estate service in South Florida for over a century. With Kinney’s retirement, the organization looks forward to new leadership while continuing to support its vast network of members and the communities they serve.
