Southlake Builders Unite to Raise $1 Million for St. Jude

Homebuilders in Southlake, Texas, have embarked on a significant initiative to raise funds for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital by constructing a series of luxury homes. This collaborative effort aims to generate $1 million to support the hospital’s mission in treating children with cancer and other serious illnesses.

The project, known as the St. Jude Dream Home Showplace, is part of the Carillon Parc development, featuring five homes located on Riviera Lane. Each builder involved has committed to raising $200,000 through contributions from trade partners, vendors, and suppliers, reflecting the community’s dedication to this cause. During a showcase event on Thursday, Jennifer Kimble-McCauley, area managing director for St. Jude’s fundraising organization, expressed optimism that the project could meet its fundraising goal within the next week.

The builders, including Jon Atwood of Atwood Custom Homes, have implemented various strategies to secure donations. Atwood shared an example of how contributions from contractors can significantly impact the fundraising effort. “I’m going to hire him and I’m going to pay him $25,000 to do the electrical work in the house,” he explained. “I’m going to write him a check for $25,000 and he’s going to gift back what he feels comfortable, back to St. Jude.”

This initiative marks a unique approach to fundraising, as it encompasses a community of five homes rather than individual efforts. Kimble-McCauley noted that previous fundraising projects typically focused on single homes, making this collaboration particularly noteworthy. “We felt like this had the most impact and the most bang for the buck,” Atwood stated, highlighting the emotional experience of visiting the hospital and witnessing its positive effects on families and children.

The homes, listed for sale with prices exceeding $3 million, showcase distinct color schemes and feature artwork created by young patients at St. Jude. The collaborative nature of this project not only emphasizes the builders’ commitment to the cause but also fosters a sense of community involvement and support for vulnerable families.

As the project progresses, the builders remain hopeful that their combined efforts will lead to a successful fundraising outcome for St. Jude. This initiative serves as a powerful reminder of the impact that community-driven efforts can have in supporting critical healthcare initiatives for children in need.
