UPDATE: A Chester woman has been charged with theft after allegedly stealing from an elderly resident at a Yeadon nursing home. Police have charged Charlene Eady, 55, with theft, receiving stolen property, and unauthorized use of an access device in connection with the disturbing case.
The Yeadon Police Department reports that authorities were alerted on October 20 when a resident of the Providence Rehabilitation Center discovered her debit card missing. The victim, who relies heavily on caregivers for daily support, noticed that credit cards typically stored in her purse had vanished, alongside unauthorized transactions made on her account.
Following the report, Yeadon Detective Leah Cesanek conducted a thorough investigation, executing multiple search warrants that led to the discovery of evidence implicating Eady. It was revealed that Eady had allegedly used the victim’s debit card at various locations throughout Chester.
Police Chief Henry Giammarco Jr. condemned the theft, stating, “This type of crime is deeply disturbing. The victim, a senior citizen residing in a nursing home, depends on caregivers for protection and dignity.” Giammarco emphasized the community’s obligation to ensure the safety and well-being of elderly residents, stating that Eady violated both ethical and moral standards expected of healthcare workers.
Eady was arraigned before District Judge Keith Williams II and is currently held on 10 percent of a $5,000 bail, which she was unable to post. She has been taken to Delaware County Prison and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on December 9.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities indicating that additional charges may be considered as new findings emerge. Giammarco reminded the public that Eady is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
This case highlights the critical need for vigilance in protecting vulnerable populations, particularly within caregiving settings. As the investigation unfolds, the community watches closely to see what further developments will arise.
