Record Rainfall Hits Dallas, Flood Threat Looms This Weekend

UPDATE: The Dallas-Fort Worth area experienced a staggering 3.95 inches of rainfall on November 16, 2023, setting a new record for the most rain in a 24-hour period for November in North Texas. This unprecedented downpour has raised urgent concerns as the region prepares for potential flooding this weekend.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant as heavy rains are expected to return by Sunday night, with forecasts predicting an additional 1 to 3 inches of rain. The National Weather Service warns that flood watches could be issued as early as Saturday evening.

After a tumultuous Thursday, the DFW area will enjoy a brief respite with dry, pleasant weather today. However, patchy, dense fog may impact the Friday morning commute, making travel conditions hazardous for some.

Temperatures are set to rise into the mid-70s, with a high near 77 degrees expected in the DFW area. Although much of the Metroplex will remain dry, parts of Central Texas are likely to see more rain throughout the day.

Looking ahead, Saturday morning will start off cool and comfortable, but clouds will build throughout the afternoon. Highs will reach the upper 60s accompanied by a north breeze.

Residents should prepare for a significant shift in weather starting Sunday, as showers begin to filter in, increasing overnight. The forecast indicates that the heaviest rain will arrive by Sunday night, creating a renewed flood threat into Monday morning.

As Thanksgiving approaches, drier and cooler air is anticipated to sweep through the region, leading to chilly conditions by Thanksgiving Day. Travelers are advised to exercise caution, particularly on Monday morning as the roads may be slick from rain.

Stay tuned for further updates as the situation develops. The safety of residents remains the top priority, and all are encouraged to stay informed about the changing weather conditions.
