UPDATE: The San Jose Earthquakes have just released their highly anticipated 2026 Major League Soccer schedule, igniting excitement among fans as key matchups loom on the horizon. Notably absent is another visit from superstar Lionel Messi, but fans can look forward to the arrival of Thomas Müller, the former World Cup Golden Boot winner.
The Quakes narrowly missed the playoffs in 2025 during coach Bruce Arena‘s first season, finishing strong but faltering with only four wins in their last 15 matches. This season is particularly significant as it marks the last summer schedule before the league transitions to a fall-through-spring format in 2027.
Season Opener Scheduled
The Earthquakes’ season kicks off at home on February 21, 2026, against Sporting Kansas City at 7:30 p.m. Subsequent home matches include a 4:30 p.m. game against Atlanta United in Week 2 and a high-stakes matchup against the Seattle Sounders FC on March 15 at 4 p.m. However, these are the only early kickoffs on the Quakes’ home schedule.
The season will wrap up with an away game against Minnesota United on November 7, setting the stage for a dramatic finale.
German Star to Make Bay Debut
In a thrilling development, Thomas Müller, the acclaimed German forward and 2010 World Cup Golden Boot winner, is slated to make his Bay Area debut on May 9 as part of the Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Müller, who transferred from Bayern Munich, brings a wealth of experience and star power to the field.
World Cup Break Ahead
Fans should note that the FIFA World Cup will take place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 18. The Quakes will pause their season after a match in Portland on May 23, resuming play on July 22 at home against Orlando City SC. During this break, Levi’s Stadium will host six World Cup matches, including a pivotal Round of 32 game on July 1.
Rivalry Matches to Watch
This season will see the Earthquakes face off against their rivals in thrilling matchups outside of PayPal Park. They will battle the LA Galaxy at Stanford Stadium for the California Clásico on July 25, where the Quakes hope to improve on a mixed record against their rivals from last year.
Additionally, a rematch with LAFC is set for September 19 at Levi’s Stadium, coinciding with Mexican Heritage Night. Last year’s match drew record attendance, and fans anticipate another electrifying atmosphere.
Ticket Sales Alert
Fans eager to attend the matches can purchase single-game tickets for all games, excluding the LAFC match, starting Tuesday on the team’s official website. Tickets for the high-demand Levi’s Stadium match will be available at a later date.
