**Maria T. Wierzbowski, Beloved Community Member, Passes Away at 83**

BREAKING: Maria T. Wierzbowski, a cherished member of the Scotia community, has passed away at the age of 83. She died peacefully on November 17, 2025, at Ellis Hospital, leaving behind a legacy of love, creativity, and dedication to family.

Born on June 11, 1942, in Hamburg, Germany, Maria’s early years were spent in Wieprz, Poland, where she developed a passion for craftsmanship that would define her life. In 1968, she immigrated to the United States, quickly finding work as a master seamstress. Her commitment to excellence led her to later work with General Electric Research and Development.

Maria’s nurturing spirit extended beyond her professional life. Inspired by her desire to help others, she pursued nursing studies, reflecting her lifelong dedication to caring for those around her. Known for her green thumb, she found joy in gardening, where she tended to her beloved plants and created beautiful wreaths and quilts for her family.

Family was the heart of Maria’s existence. Her home was a vibrant hub filled with warmth, laughter, and the sounds of polka music, where memories were made and shared. She is survived by her sons, Edward Wierzbowski and Adam Wierzbowski, along with her grandchildren: Kirsten, Zara, Luca, and Ayla Wierzbowski. Additionally, she leaves behind her sister, Zofia Wronka, and dear cousin, Kathleen Chastney.

Maria was predeceased by her husband, Zygmunt Wierzbowski, in 1993, and her brothers, John, Eugene, and Edward Szostak.

A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, November 20, 2025, at 1 p.m. at the chapel at Memory Gardens in Colonie, followed by interment. The family encourages memorial contributions in Maria’s name to be made to the Glenville Hill Volunteer Fire Department, located at 1086 Church Road, Glenville, NY 12302.
