URGENT UPDATE: New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd is in critical but stable condition after being shot early Sunday morning in Midtown Manhattan. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. outside a club near West 38th Street and Seventh Avenue, according to the NYPD.
Witnesses report that Boyd, 29, was involved in a verbal altercation before the shooting took place. Authorities have confirmed he was not alone at the time, but it remains unclear if he was the intended target. Boyd was transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he is currently fighting for his life.
Police have not made any arrests yet, and the investigation is ongoing. Eyewitness accounts indicate the shooter fled the scene in a BMW X8 SUV, while another vehicle, a silver Mercedes-Maybach, was also seen speeding away after the incident. Multiple witnesses have been uncooperative with police, complicating the investigation.
Photos from the scene revealed a luxury armored SUV, a Rhino GX valued at nearly $300,000, parked outside the restaurant following the shooting. Reports state Boyd was drifting in and out of consciousness before medical personnel arrived.
The Jets have acknowledged the situation involving Boyd but have refrained from further comment. In a heartfelt post on X, Jets linebacker Jermaine Johnson II urged fans to pray for Boyd and his family, stating, “Lord, please hold your healing hand over Kris and guide him back to health and safety.”
New York City Mayor Eric Adams also expressed his concern via social media, praying for Boyd and emphasizing the need to address gun violence in the city. “Although we’ve gotten shootings to historic lows in our city, we must continue to work to end gun violence,” he stated.
Boyd joined the Jets this season after playing for the Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals, and Houston Texans. He is currently on injured reserve and did not participate in the Jets’ recent game.
As the situation develops, fans and teammates alike are rallying around Boyd, hoping for a swift recovery. Stay tuned for more updates as police continue their investigation into this alarming incident in Manhattan.
