Kevin J. McAloon, a distinguished engineer and avid adventurer, passed away on September 16, 2025, at the age of 89. Born in Chicago, Illinois, to parents John H. McAloon and Eileen A. O’Sullivan McAloon, he led a life marked by professional achievement and personal passion.
McAloon completed his early education at Notre Dame Academy in Watsonville, California, before graduating from St. Ignatius High School in Chicago. Following his high school years, he served two years in the U.S. Army, a period that undoubtedly shaped his character and dedication. He later earned a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Detroit and a Master’s degree from the University of Southern California.
For 30 years, McAloon made significant contributions to the aerospace industry. He worked with major companies such as Douglas Aircraft and Northrop, but spent the majority of his career, 23 years, with TRW before retiring in 1992. Following his retirement, he continued to share his expertise as a part-time consultant at TRW and Northrop Grumman for an additional nine years.
Outside of his professional life, McAloon was passionate about outdoor activities. He enjoyed motorcycle riding, both on dirt trails and city streets, taking memorable trips across the country with his children. His love for running saw him complete four marathons, three of which were alongside his son, in addition to countless 10K races. After transitioning from running, he took up cycling, relishing rides on the Palos Verdes Peninsula and exploring the farming roads of the Sacramento Valley, where he developed a keen interest in farming technology.
McAloon is survived by his four children, including his daughter Karen, two grandchildren, Jack and Madeleine, and four nieces and nephews, Jack, Maureen, Jim, and Kathy.
In a heartfelt tribute, his family reflected on his life, stating, “The above was written by our dad to be precise and economical, and we have faithfully submitted it. But he never said we couldn’t add to it, so—he will be missed. His wit, his charm, his kindness, his deep love of salt, his Irish humour. May the wind always be at your back.”
Kevin J. McAloon leaves behind a legacy of professional excellence and cherished memories, reminding all who knew him of the joy found in both work and play.
