BREAKING: The community of Tewksbury is mourning the passing of James J. Morris, the beloved retired fire chief, who died peacefully at age 97 surrounded by family on November 12, 2025. This loss resonates deeply as Morris dedicated his life to serving and protecting the town he cherished.
Morris, a lifelong resident of Tewksbury, was born on June 28, 1928, in Lowell, MA. He attended local schools, graduating from Tewksbury High School in 1949. He honorably served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War era, completing his service in 1952.
After returning home, Morris devoted 38 years to the Tewksbury Fire Department, ultimately rising to the role of fire chief, a position he held until his retirement in 1988. His commitment to firefighting and community safety made him a respected figure among residents.
Morris is survived by his wife, Constance R. (Nolan) Morris, with whom he shared an incredible 73 years of marriage. Together, they raised four children: Deborah J. Goodwin of Merrimack, NH; James W. Morris of Dunstable; Constance R. Morris of Tewksbury; and the late Frederick R. Morris. He is also remembered as a devoted grandfather to eleven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Family and friends can pay their respects on Wednesday, November 19, between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, located at 16 Lee Street, Tewksbury. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. William’s Church, 1351 Main Street, Route 38, Tewksbury. Interment will take place at St. Mary Cemetery, 90 River Road, Tewksbury.
