URGENT UPDATE: Joan M. Hakun, a cherished figure in Allentown, has passed away at the age of 84 on November 9, 2025, at the Luther Crest Healthcare Center in South Whitehall Township. Her husband, George Hakun III, mourns the loss of his beloved wife of 63 years.
Joan, a devoted homemaker and former Registered Nurse, leaves behind a legacy of love and service. Born in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Joseph L. and Helen (Grota) Miseravage. A proud graduate of Reading High School, the Reading Hospital School of Nursing, and Kutztown University, Joan was known for her compassion and dedication to her family and community.
As a long-time member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Allentown, Joan played a crucial role in her church community, serving as a Lector and participating in various church activities. She was not only a wife, mother, and grandmother but also a great-grandmother who cherished her family deeply.
Surviving Joan are her son, Mark G. Hakun (Maurann) of Gambrills, MD, and grandchildren Monica Burnett (Jeff) of Layton, UT, and Marcella Hakun of Gambrills, MD. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Cathy Hakun, and grandchildren Steven and Patrick Hakun of Woodbine, MD. Joan was preceded in death by her son, Andrew G. Hakun.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 11 A.M. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, located at 1040 Flexer Ave, Allentown, PA 18103. A calling hour will be held from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. in the church prior to the service.
