Bend High’s girls soccer team secured a spot in the Class 5A state championship match by defeating Wilsonville 3-1 on November 11, 2025. This victory not only marks a return to the final for Bend but also ends Wilsonville’s four-year reign as state champions.
The match took place at the packed 15th Street Field in Bend, where the second-seeded Lava Bears showcased their dominance with an explosive start. Within the first four minutes, junior midfielder Harper Moffenbeier headed in a corner kick from junior forward Shea Manfredi, giving Bend an early lead. Just moments later, senior midfielder Meredith King extended the advantage to two goals with a well-placed chip shot off an assist from sophomore defender Tatyana Fobi.
Wilsonville, aiming for its sixth consecutive appearance in the 5A championship match, responded quickly. Senior Camryn Schaan, who had scored twice in the previous year’s title match, found the net in the sixth minute, narrowing Bend’s lead to 2-1. Despite this early goal, the Lava Bears maintained their composure.
In a pivotal moment, Manfredi struck again, dribbling down the right side and scoring to push the score to 3-1 in the 18th minute. This goal would define the match, as Bend held onto its lead for the remaining 62 minutes of play.
Bend High’s coach, Scott Sagar, reflected on the win, stating, “This has been an accumulation of all the hard work that we have put in. This is proof that when you stick to the game plan, and believe, you can do this.”
Looking ahead, the Lava Bears will face the top-seeded North Eugene in the championship match on Saturday at Hillsboro Stadium. North Eugene advanced after a narrow 1-0 victory over No. 4 Summit in the other semifinal.
With this triumph, Bend aims to capture its first state title since the program’s inception. The upcoming championship match promises to be a thrilling conclusion to an already exciting season.
