In a remarkable display of skill and determination, the San Ramon Valley Wolves clinched the inaugural North Coast Section Division I flag football championship by defeating the Granada Matadors 14-7 at Clayton Valley Charter High School on November 6, 2025. The Wolves achieved this victory without any senior players, showcasing the potential of their young team.
Freshman receiver and linebacker Tatum Prindiville emerged as the standout performer, making pivotal contributions on both offense and defense. Her two touchdown receptions and key defensive stops not only earned her the title of game MVP but also propelled her team to a comeback victory after initially trailing.
San Ramon Valley began the game on the back foot, with Granada quickly scoring a touchdown on their opening drive. Quarterback Katie Vail connected with Marin Lnenicka for a 31-yard touchdown pass, putting the Wolves in a difficult position. Throughout the first half, San Ramon Valley struggled to find their rhythm, but the turning point came during halftime.
Second Half Surge
The second half saw a rejuvenated San Ramon Valley team that came out with renewed energy and focus. Prindiville emphasized the importance of communication among teammates, stating, “We knew we had to come out with the fire. We were able to talk to each other and communicate. It was just easy to play with them.”
The Wolves capitalized on this momentum, scoring their first touchdown with a 27-yard pass from sophomore Gia Ryan to Prindiville. They followed this with a successful two-point conversion, allowing them to take the lead. The duo connected again in the fourth quarter, with a 26-yard touchdown that further extended their advantage.
Head coach Chad Cochran expressed his pride in the young team, stating, “The talent is just through the roof. So that’s great, and then knowing in the back of my mind that we get to run this back next year is terrific.” His optimism reflects the team’s potential for further success in the upcoming season.
A Bright Future Ahead
The victory marks a significant milestone for San Ramon Valley, which has risen to the top of the North Coast Section after only three years of flag football being recognized as a sanctioned sport in California. With the picturesque Mt. Diablo visible in the distance, the Wolves appear poised to maintain their status as the leading team in the section.
Prindiville shared her elation after the win, describing the experience as “amazing.” She stated, “I’ve never felt anything like that. We knew we had to come out strong, and we’re gonna do the exact same next year. We’re ready for it.”
The triumph not only highlights the skill of the young players but also serves as an inspiration for the growing sport of flag football at the high school level. As teams prepare for the next season, San Ramon Valley’s achievement may set a new benchmark for excellence in the league.
