Milligan University Students Honored with Statewide PA Awards

A current student and an alumnus of Milligan University’s Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MSPAS) program have received significant recognition from the Tennessee Academy of Physician Assistants (TAPA). Paxton Barnes was awarded the TAPA Student of the Year Award, while Bailey Jessee, a graduate from the class of 2021, received the Preceptor of the Year Award. Both individuals were celebrated at the 2025 TAPA Fall Conference, held earlier this month.

Recognized for his commitment to education, Jessee plays a crucial role as a preceptor, supervising and mentoring PA students in clinical settings. In addition to his precepting duties, he serves on the PA Program Advisory Committee and is an adjunct instructor for Milligan’s PA program. Dr. Andy Hull, area chair, director, and associate professor of physician assistant studies at Milligan, praised Jessee’s commitment to fostering the next generation of physician assistants.

“Bailey’s dedication to precepting and mentoring future PAs is highlighted by this award,” Hull stated. “He exemplifies clinical excellence while investing in the next generation of PAs, encouraging growth and confidence in our students.”

Barnes, who is set to graduate in the upcoming spring, has made her mark as the AAPA State Chapter Student Representative for Milligan’s PA program. Her involvement extends beyond the classroom; she has also taken on the role of a program ambassador and participated in a short-term medical mission trip to Kenya. Dr. Hull commended Barnes for her exemplary qualities, stating, “Paxton truly embodies what it means to be a Milligan PA student through her compassion, professionalism, and commitment to serving others.” He added that the award honors her academic excellence, servant leadership, and dedication to providing exceptional patient care.

The recognition of both Barnes and Jessee reflects the mission of Milligan University’s PA program to prepare students who make a positive impact locally and globally through exceptional healthcare. The accolades serve as a testament to the program’s commitment to producing skilled professionals dedicated to their communities.
