The Arizona Cardinals have confirmed that Jacoby Brissett will start at quarterback for their upcoming game against the Seattle Seahawks on November 5, 2023. This decision follows Brissett’s impressive performance in a 27-17 victory over the Dallas Cowboys, which solidified his position as the starter while Kyler Murray continues to recover from a foot injury.
Head coach Jonathan Gannon expressed confidence in Brissett’s abilities, stating, “As relates to the quarterback in Seattle, Jacoby will start. And Kyler will keep working on his health bucket.” Gannon praised the offense’s recent performance, noting their effective operation during Murray’s absence. Brissett, who has now made three consecutive starts, threw for two touchdowns and added a rushing score in the recent game, showcasing his capability to lead the team.
Despite initial hopes for Murray’s return after the team’s open week, Gannon confirmed that Murray was not yet ready to return to action. “Nothing’s changed,” Gannon reiterated when asked about Brissett’s readiness to remain the starter. The Cardinals, currently sitting at a record of 3-5, have struggled in recent outings, winning only twice in their last 18 games when Murray did not play significant snaps.
Murray, selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, has a notable history at AT&T Stadium, boasting an undefeated record of 9-0 there, which includes winning state championships in high school and securing two Big 12 titles during his college career at Oklahoma. In contrast, Brissett holds a 1-0 record as a starter against the Cowboys, which he views as a team accomplishment rather than an individual milestone.
“I don’t get into that stuff, man,” Brissett remarked when asked about potentially replacing Murray as the starter. “I’m just trying to go out here and win games and be a good teammate. And do the best I can when I get my opportunities. That’s all I can ask for.” His focus remains on contributing positively to the team and achieving victories.
The Cardinals began their season with a promising 2-0 record but have since faced challenges, losing five consecutive games by a narrow margin of just 13 points. Gannon reflected on the team’s struggles, stating, “I’m looking at my watch, and I don’t remember the last time we won.” He acknowledged the weight of responsibility on his shoulders, admitting to moments of self-reflection during the bye week.
As the Cardinals prepare to face the Seahawks, the matchup is set to take place at 14:00 local time. The outcome will be crucial for both teams as they navigate the competitive landscape of the NFL.
