Schuylkill River Greenways Unveils Urgent Art Show: Nov. 4-21

URGENT UPDATE: The Schuylkill River Greenways is set to launch the highly anticipated 2025 Scenes of the Schuylkill Art Show, running from November 4-21 at the North Hall Gallery of Montgomery County Community College in Pottstown. This annual juried event showcases the vibrant beauty and culture of the Schuylkill River National and State Heritage Area, drawing significant public interest.

The art show kicks off with an exclusive artists’ reception on November 5 from 6-8 PM. Tickets are available online until November 4 through the Schuylkill River Greenways website, with a limited number of tickets also available at the door. The exhibition will feature nearly 100 pieces from over 60 artists, all free to the public during regular business hours.

Patrick Rodgers, Manager of the Montco Cultural Center at Montgomery County Community College, has curated this event for almost a decade. He emphasizes the emotional connection the show fosters with nature during the fall season. “I love the natural aspect of the show,” Rodgers stated. “It always brings nature in when the fall is releasing nature and we are all spending more time indoors.”

This year’s Guest Juror is David Aipperspach, a distinguished local painter and Assistant Professor of painting and printmaking at Ursinus College. With an MFA in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design, Aipperspach has exhibited his work nationwide. He noted his passion for landscape painting and parks, stating, “I’m primarily a landscape painter and I’m also an advocate and user of parks, trails, and the Greenways, so this is a great fit.”

Aipperspach will select winners for categories including best in show, best 3-D art, and best student work. In his judging, he focuses on the seasonality and evocative qualities of the artwork, seeking pieces that transcend traditional color palettes. He remarked, “In landscape and nature art, I’m looking for seasonality. I really like when color and landscape painting is really specific and evocative.”

The excitement surrounding the event is palpable, with artists like Debby Wyatt, a ceramic artist and owner of Centered Clay Studio in Kennett Square, expressing enthusiasm about showcasing their work. “I love The Scenes of the Schuylkill because it brings out all the creative people who enjoy the river and the beauty of the trail from top to bottom,” Wyatt shared.

As the opening date approaches, art enthusiasts and community members are encouraged to participate and experience the unique displays that celebrate the Schuylkill River’s heritage. The event not only highlights local talent but also fosters community engagement and appreciation for nature.
