UPDATE: The community mourns the loss of Betty Jean “Jeanne” Ruth, who passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025, surrounded by family at Diamond Willow in Cloquet, MN. Jeanne, a cherished figure known for her warmth and kindness, touched the lives of many throughout her 73 years.
Jeanne was born on March 23, 1952, in Alexandria, Minnesota, and was the youngest of four children in a loving family. Her childhood was marked by numerous moves, but she spent most of her school years in ORR, MN. After completing her education at Proctor High School as a proud member of the class of 1970, Jeanne maintained enduring friendships, frequently attending reunions in both Orr and Proctor.
In 1974, Jeanne married her partner of 36 years, Norman “Norm” Ruth, who passed away unexpectedly in 2010. Together, they raised one son, Ryan, and created lasting memories through their love for travel, camping, and family activities. Jeanne’s greatest joy came from her grandsons, Alex and Eli, whose visits brought her immense happiness, especially during their shared outings to UMD hockey games.
Jeanne’s professional journey included roles at Travelers Insurance, the Duluth Builders Exchange, and she served as the Executive Director of the Arrowhead Builders Association before returning to State Farm Insurance, where she worked until her retirement in 2016. Her coworkers and friends remember her as a true caregiver, always making others feel comfortable and valued.
Jeanne’s legacy of kindness and friendship will forever impact those who knew her. She enjoyed the symphony, theater, and made every gathering special, leaving behind a treasure trove of memories filled with love and laughter.
Jeanne is survived by her son Ryan and daughter-in-law Andrea, her grandsons Alex and Eli, and her siblings. She was preceded in death by her husband Norm, her parents, and other family members who will also be remembered during this time of mourning.
Services for Jeanne will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Grace Lutheran Church. The visitation begins at 10:00 AM, followed by the memorial service at 11:00 AM. A gathering with appetizers and shared memories will conclude the day, honoring her life with grace and gratitude.
