Naomi Scott Denies Aladdin 2 Production Rumors Amid Updates

The much-anticipated sequel to Disney’s live-action adaptation of Aladdin has become the subject of speculation regarding its production timeline. Actress Naomi Scott, who portrayed Princess Jasmine in the original film, addressed recent rumors about the film’s shoot date, which was reportedly set for January 1, 2026.

Scott’s Response to Production Claims

According to a report by Productionlist.com, filming for Aladdin 2 is expected to take place in both London and the United States. The sequel aims to reunite several key members of the original cast, including Scott, Mena Massoud as Aladdin, and Will Smith as the Genie. The project is described as a sequel to the live-action musical inspired by the beloved 1992 animated film, featuring the story of a street urchin who, with the help of a magic genie, wins the heart of Princess Jasmine.

In response to a fan inquiry on social media, Scott emphatically refuted the claims about the production timeline. “Fake boo,” she stated. “Completely false.” This clarification came after speculation intensified regarding the sequel’s development.

Background on Aladdin 2 and Its Development

Disney reportedly initiated development of Aladdin 2 in February 2020. The sequel was set to be penned by John Gatins and Andrea Berloff, with producers Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich attached to the project. While Smith was previously confirmed to reprise his role as the Genie in January 2023, Massoud hinted that a sequel might be “very unlikely” just two months later.

In addition to the main sequel, a spin-off centered on Prince Anders was announced in 2019, with actor Billy Magnussen expected to return for a Disney+ feature. However, this project has yet to materialize.

The live-action adaptation of Aladdin, directed by Guy Ritchie, premiered in May 2019. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, the film was a commercial success, grossing over $1 billion worldwide. It ranks as the third-highest-grossing Disney live-action remake, following The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast.

As the excitement surrounding the potential sequel continues, fans can currently enjoy the original Aladdin, which is available for streaming on Disney+.
