Jonathan Scott and Zooey Deschanel have yet to make significant progress on their wedding plans. During an exclusive interview with Us Weekly at the 39th Annual Habitat for Humanity Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project in Austin, Texas, Scott, 47, humorously admitted, “We don’t have any updates yet,” adding that they are “the worst at planning” the event. Despite their busy schedules, the couple remains committed to their relationship, which includes their engagement from August 2023 after four years of dating.
Scott’s twin brother, Drew Scott, chimed in with a lighthearted remark about their priorities, stating, “You don’t have time for a wedding, you’re throwing Halloween parties.” The brothers are involved in various projects, including their HGTV show, Property Brothers. Jonathan noted that while he is preoccupied with events like Habitat for Humanity builds, he values the experience of working alongside community members to create homes.
He remarked, “Habitat is not just gifting houses. Habitat is working alongside homeowners to build their own home, and then those same homeowners pitch in to build their neighbor’s home and the whole community.” This dedication to service reflects Jonathan’s passion for the organization, which adds to the couple’s busy lifestyle and delays in wedding planning.
Despite being engaged for over two years, the couple has prioritized family and fun activities over wedding arrangements. Jonathan highlighted the joys of traveling with Deschanel’s two children from a previous relationship and working on their show. He explained their approach to the wedding, stating, “Whatever we do, it has to be meaningful to us, and we want to gather our friends and family and have a good time.”
The couple envisions an intimate celebration when they ultimately tie the knot. Jonathan mentioned, “The ceremony and the pomp and circumstance, we’ll get that out of the way, and then it’s the reception. It’s going to be a blast.”
As of November 2024, Jonathan playfully expressed frustration over the lack of wedding planning, saying, “I’m sick and tired of myself for not figuring out our wedding date yet.” He noted that their busy schedules have made it challenging to set a date. Drew added his own comedic take, lamenting that the couple’s indecision also affects his availability for vacations.
Jonathan explained that their engagement occurred not in August 2023, but the previous August, suggesting they initially thought the wedding might occur that year. He recalled receiving a text from Drew asking for date confirmations, emphasizing the interconnectedness of their schedules.
The couple’s relationship has been shaped by past experiences, with both Jonathan and Zooey having been married before. Jonathan reflected on their connection, stating, “When we met, it was amazing because we both had been through unsuccessful relationships. You learn what you do not want, and you also think of the things that you do want — and the synergy was incredible.”
As they navigate their busy lives, the couple remains committed to keeping their bond strong, filled with moments of joy and laughter. For now, the wedding plans remain on hold, but their shared journey continues to bring them closer together.
