BREAKING: A tragic hit-and-run crash in Denver has left a pedestrian dead early Sunday morning. The incident, which occurred at 2:16 AM at the intersection of 16th and Market Streets, involved a vehicle that struck a digital kiosk before toppling onto the victim.
The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Milton McBride, was arrested later that same day on Wazee Street. Surveillance footage reportedly shows him driving through the gate arm of a parking garage on 15th Street before losing control of his pickup truck and crashing into the kiosk.
The victim, whose identity has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses reported seeing a man flee from the red pickup truck as bystanders reacted to the chaos unfolding around them.
“This is a devastating incident for our community,” said a spokesperson from the Denver Police Department.
During the search leading to his arrest, police discovered a Ziplock bag containing a white powdery substance, suspected to be cocaine, in McBride’s left pants pocket. A blood draw was subsequently conducted at Denver Health Medical Center.
McBride is currently in custody under investigation for vehicular homicide. The five interactive kiosks on 16th Street, which feature two 65-inch screens each and were installed in 2015, serve as directories for businesses and events along the corridor.
