URGENT UPDATE: A Houston homeowner is seeking immediate answers after a city solid waste crew removed her landscaping stones, leaving her property vulnerable. Maria Trevino reported the incident on September 18, 2023, expressing her frustration that despite multiple calls to 3-1-1, she has yet to receive a satisfactory response.
On the afternoon of September 18, Trevino returned home to find that the large stones she strategically placed to protect her yard were missing. “Where are the rocks? Where are the stones?” she questioned, recalling how the stones had successfully deterred drivers from veering into her yard for over a year.
Trevino captured video evidence from her security cameras. At 10:03 a.m., the footage shows the stones in place; by 10:06 a.m., they had vanished, replaced by a large piece of machinery. Trevino suspects the City of Houston’s heavy trash team mistakenly took her stones during their yard waste pickup scheduled for September 16. “The stones weren’t trash; they were there for a reason,” she emphasized.
Since the stones were removed, Trevino has not experienced any vehicles driving onto her property, but she remains anxious about future incidents. “I dread every weekend that passes because it usually happens between Thursday and Monday,” she said, highlighting the emotional toll the situation has taken on her.
Trevino has reached out to 3-1-1 multiple times, including follow-ups on September 26 and October 23, but has received nothing but report numbers with no follow-up. “I would like for them to bring me some stones to replace the ones that were taken,” she stated, voicing her hope for a resolution that would restore her property’s safety.
Eyewitness News contacted 3-1-1 to determine what can be done for Trevino. While they suggested filing a claim with the city, past reports reveal that only 17% of such claims were approved between 2022 and 2024, casting doubt on the likelihood of a favorable outcome.
As Trevino awaits a response from city officials, she remains vigilant and worried for her safety. This developing story raises questions about the handling of city services and the impact on residents who rely on them.
