Dodgers Prepare for World Series Without $72M Reliever Tanner Scott

The Los Angeles Dodgers are gearing up for Game One of the World Series without veteran reliever Tanner Scott, who is expected to miss the roster due to a recent medical procedure. The team aims to secure a second consecutive championship, an achievement that has eluded them for years. While Scott has expressed his readiness to return, the emergence of rookie sensation Roki Sasaki in the closing role has shifted the team’s focus.
Scott was unexpectedly removed from the Wild Card roster during the series against the Cincinnati Reds following a procedure described by Dodgers manager Dave Roberts as “abscess excision” related to a lower body issue. “I don’t know a whole lot about it, to be quite honest with you. But I do know that he’s recovering well,” Roberts stated. The procedure occurred on the night before the announcement, leading to uncertainty about Scott’s availability.
Since the procedure, Scott has returned to the clubhouse and indicated that he feels significantly better. He has participated in bullpen sessions and believes he is fit enough to be included in the World Series roster if the team opts to activate him. In a statement shared by Dodgers Blue, Scott noted, “I feel a lot better now,” signaling his eagerness to contribute should the opportunity arise.
Despite Scott’s readiness, the decision ultimately lies with Dodgers management. His recent struggles have led analysts like Gabe Smallson to suggest that rushing him back may not be in the team’s best interest. “Regardless, Scott hasn’t shown enough to rush him back to the Fall Classic roster,” Smallson commented. He emphasized that the Dodgers are performing well with Sasaki taking on high-leverage situations, making Scott’s absence less impactful.
Sasaki’s rise has been remarkable, with his ability to consistently perform under pressure drawing attention. His recent performances have solidified his role as a reliable option in crucial moments for the Dodgers. As the team prepares for the World Series, Scott’s potential absence does not appear to hinder their momentum.
Even if Scott does not participate in the games, he will still receive a championship ring if the Dodgers secure victory. This situation allows him to focus on recovery and preparation for the next season while supporting his teammates during the playoffs.
As the Dodgers aim for success in the World Series, Scott’s journey reflects the broader challenges and triumphs faced by athletes throughout their careers. With the playoffs underway, all eyes will be on how the Dodgers leverage their roster to achieve championship glory.
