Ronald L. Gilbert Passes Away at 70, Remembered for Family and Community

UPDATE: Ronald L. Gilbert, aged 70, of Perry Township, has passed away on October 14, 2025, at Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center. His death marks a significant loss for his family and community, following the passing of his wife, Cheryl L. Gilbert, in 2010.

Gilbert was born in Pottsville and raised in the area, a beloved figure known for his dedication to family and his passions. An alumnus of Blue Mountain High School class of 1973, he later pursued education at Lincoln Tech. Gilbert dedicated much of his working life to the steel industry, working for DANA Corporation until his retirement. He continued his work ethic with roles at Sheetz, Mack Truck, and most recently, as a greeter at Cabela’s.

A passionate individual, Ronald enjoyed spending his time hunting, riding his Harley Davidson, and exploring the outdoors. He cherished family gatherings and was known for his enthusiasm in maintaining his lawn. A devoted sports fan, he followed the Philadelphia Phillies and the Miami Dolphins closely, often sharing his love for sports with his family.

He is survived by his son, Todd D. Gilbert, married to Kayleigh in Viera, FL, and his daughter, Jani L. (Gilbert) Milan, married to Matthew in Yulee, FL. Ronald leaves behind three grandchildren: Connor DuCoin, Chayson Gilbert, and McKinley Gilbert. Additionally, he is survived by his two brothers, Carlson G. “Butch” Gilbert, Jr. and Richard C. Gilbert, and three sisters: Carol (Gilbert) Merbah, Sandra (Gilbert) LaScala, and Donna (Gilbert) Dabashinski.
