Edgewater OL Ben Jones Selected for Army All-American Bowl
UPDATE: Edgewater offensive lineman Ben Jones, formerly known as Ben Bankowitz, has received an invitation to the prestigious US Army All-American Bowl, set to take place on December 21, 2023, in Frisco, Texas. This recognition highlights not only his individual talent but also the importance of offensive linemen in high school football.
Jones, ranked No. 43 in the Orlando Sentinel’s 2026 Central Florida Super60, expressed his gratitude, stating, “It feels really good. I try to not think about it too much, just give the glory to God.” His name change was made in honor of his stepfather, Eric Jones, further emphasizing the personal significance of this achievement.
The 6-foot-3, 295-pound tackle has been a cornerstone of the Edgewater Eagles football program, contributing to their stunning 9-0 record this season. The Eagles are the champions of Class 7A, District 5, and are preparing for a critical game against Boone in the upcoming Barrel Game rivalry on October 30.
“This year is going really well, obviously, 9-0, but we’re not close to done,” Jones emphasized. “We still got six more games.” His performance on the field has not only showcased his skills but also solidified his reputation as one of Florida’s top offensive linemen.
Jones credits his success to his rigorous focus on technique, stating, “Technique is one of the most pivotal components of being an offensive lineman.” His dedication has earned him recognition from coaches, including former Edgewater offensive line coach Chris Jamison, who played a significant role in his development.
The invitation to the Army All-American Bowl is a testament to Jones’s commitment and hard work. He remains committed to Appalachian State, where he plans to transition from tackle to the interior line. “I’m locked in. They are building something special up there,” Jones said, highlighting the strong connection he feels with the coaching staff.
The success of the Edgewater team can be attributed to the unity and dedication of its players, especially after the transition to first-year head coach Patrick Browning. “I don’t have enough good words to say about Coach Browning,” Jones added, emphasizing the strong bond among teammates.
With the Eagles on an undefeated streak, the anticipation builds as they prepare for their next match-up, aiming to extend their winning record. This achievement for Jones is not just personal; it represents the hard work and dedication of an entire team working towards a common goal.
As the season progresses, fans and followers will be eager to see how Jones and the Edgewater Eagles continue to excel on the field. Stay tuned for updates as this story develops!
