49ers’ Bryce Huff Out Two Weeks with Hamstring Strain

UPDATE: The San Francisco 49ers face a significant setback as edge rusher Bryce Huff is sidelined for at least two weeks due to a hamstring strain. This injury comes just after the team secured a 20-10 victory over the Atlanta Falcons on October 30, 2023.
Reports confirm Huff experienced the injury late in the game, feeling discomfort on the final two plays. Head Coach Kyle Shanahan stated, “I was told he felt it on the last two plays,” during a press conference with local reporters.
This injury compounds the 49ers’ challenges as their pass rush has already been impacted by the loss of Nick Bosa, who is recovering from a torn ACL. The team currently ranks 25th in the NFL with just 14 sacks, and Huff led the squad with four sacks and six quarterback hits.
Acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles, Huff had recently emerged as a vital asset, showcasing his potential by forcing a fumble against the Falcons. With Bosa and defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos also out due to injury, the 49ers are relying on Sam Okuayinonu and rookie Mykel Williams to fill the gaps.
Shanahan expressed cautious optimism about Huff’s recovery, stating, “Hopefully it won’t be longer than two weeks. You know he’s coming back sooner than later.” However, the timing is critical as the 49ers prepare for back-to-back road games against the Houston Texans and the New York Giants.
“Does this change our urgency to find an edge rusher?” Shanahan remarked, “I don’t think it changes the urgency of it. The front office has been looking into that stuff all the time for the last few weeks.” With the trade deadline approaching on November 5, the pressure mounts for the 49ers to secure additional depth.
In addition to Huff, the 49ers will also be without center Jake Brendel, who is expected to miss the same timeframe due to a hamstring strain. Veteran Matt Hennessey stepped in effectively during the Falcons game.
Quarterback Brock Purdy and wide receiver Ricky Pearsall Jr. will be monitored for their respective injuries, with Purdy’s status uncertain for the upcoming game against Houston. Cornerback Renardo Green is day-to-day with a toe injury, adding to the team’s injury woes.
As the 49ers navigate these challenges, tight end George Kittle has highlighted the importance of resilience within the team. He praised quarterback Mac Jones, stating, “The way he’s stepped up when Brock has not been in and led this team to a bunch of victories is incredible.”
With the stakes high and injuries mounting, the 49ers must rally together as they aim to maintain their competitive edge in the NFC. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely as the team prepares for its next challenges.
