Three candidates are contesting for two seats on the Boyertown School Board in Region 1 during the general election scheduled for November 4, 2025. The candidates include incumbent Ruth Dierolf, who is running as both a Democrat and a Republican, alongside newcomers Michelle Wile, a Democrat, and Matthew Weir, a Republican. Each candidate is seeking a four-year term on the board.

In an effort to inform voters, the Reading Eagle posed two key questions to the candidates. The first inquiry focused on the personal characteristics that make them suitable for the school board. The second question addressed the most significant challenge facing the district and their proposed solutions.

Candidates’ Responses to Key Questions

Michelle Wile emphasized her extensive background in education as a pivotal factor in her candidacy. She noted, “My education has been the ‘game-changer’ in my life.” Wile, who holds a doctorate degree in educational leadership from the University of Pennsylvania, has taught high school mathematics and middle school honors courses across various school environments. She highlighted her 23 years of experience as both a teacher and administrator, during which she received commendations for math intervention programs her teams developed.

Wile expressed a strong commitment to community values, stating, “I recognize the necessity to balance the need for excellent programs with fiscal responsibility.” She identified significant challenges facing students today, particularly in standardized testing results that reveal many are struggling with proficiency in math and reading.

In addressing these challenges, Wile advocated for full-day kindergarten programs, citing research that demonstrates the long-term benefits of early childhood education. She argued that while expanding such programs may require additional resources, the advantages far outweigh the costs. Wile suggested that any necessary tax increases could be managed through prudent school board leadership and innovative implementation strategies.

The Incumbent and Other Candidates

Incumbent Ruth Dierolf did not provide a response to the Reading Eagle’s questions. Her dual candidacy as both a Democrat and a Republican raises questions about her platform and the policies she intends to support.

Matthew Weir, the other newcomer, also did not submit responses to the questions posed. His campaign may focus on different priorities or strategies, but specific details regarding his candidacy remain unclear at this time.

As the election approaches, voters in Boyertown will have the opportunity to weigh the candidates’ qualifications and vision for the future of the school district. The outcome will significantly influence the direction of educational policies and community engagement within the Boyertown School Board.
