John A. Pickar, 62, Passes Away Unexpectedly in Duluth

URGENT UPDATE: John A. Pickar, a beloved member of the Duluth community, has passed away unexpectedly at the age of 62. His family confirmed the tragic news earlier today, revealing he died on October 14, 2025.
Born on October 3, 1963, in Duluth, Minnesota, John was a graduate of East High School and earned his bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD). He dedicated much of his professional life to Great Lakes Office Solutions and was a respected member of the Rotary Club, known for his unwavering commitment to community service.
John is survived by his mother, Peg Pickar, siblings Christine Beck, Bruce (Amber) Pickar, and Andrew (Kate) Pickar, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, including Joshua (Desiree) Butler and Elise Pickar. His father, Arthur Pickar, predeceased him.
John was not only a devoted family member but also a passionate outdoorsman. He cherished moments spent snowmobiling, hunting, and fishing, particularly during fishing openers with friends. His time at the deer shack in Finland was filled with treasured memories, including playing cribbage, enjoying saunas, and reflecting in the quiet of nature.
An avid collector of old beer cans, John was a proud member of the Beer Can Collectors of America, showcasing his unique interests and hobbies. He was known for his infectious humor and ability to make friends wherever he went, leaving a lasting impact on all who met him.
Friends and family are heartbroken by his sudden passing, with many expressing their grief on social media. John’s kindness and genuine care for others were legendary, making him a cherished figure in the community.
