Johns Hopkins Nursing Faculty and Alumni Honored with 11 Fellowships

BREAKING NEWS: Thirteen esteemed faculty and alumni from the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing (JHSON) have received prestigious honors from the American Academy of Nursing (AAN), highlighting their significant contributions to global health and nursing education. This announcement comes as part of the Academy’s annual Health Policy Conference held in Washington, D.C. on October 18, 2025.
Among the honors, 11 faculty and alumni have been selected for fellowship in the AAN, marking a momentous recognition of their exceptional careers and impact. The new fellows include prominent figures such as Laura Lucas, DNP, Shawna Mudd, DNP, and Shaquita Starks, PhD, who exemplify leadership and innovation in nursing.
Additionally, Phyllis Sharps, PhD, RN, FAAN, has been named a 2025 Living Legend, an accolade reserved for those who have made extraordinary contributions to nursing and global health. Dr. Sharps is renowned for her pivotal research on intimate partner violence among pregnant women, which has reshaped public health nursing practices.
The ceremony also saw the President’s Award presented to Patricia Davidson, PhD, recognizing her lifelong commitment to enhancing health outcomes for communities worldwide.
“These recognitions from the American Academy of Nursing honor the remarkable breadth and depth of excellence within the Hopkins Nursing community,” stated Sarah L. Szanton, PhD, Dean of JHSON. “Each honoree embodies the spirit of innovation, compassion, and leadership that propels our school forward in advancing global health.”
This recognition underscores the pivotal role that JHSON plays in shaping the future of nursing education and policy. With its position as a global leader, the school is ranked No. 1 for its Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program and No. 2 for its master’s program in the U.S. News & World Report rankings.
