Commanders QB Jayden Daniels Undergoes MRI for Hamstring Injury
UPDATE: Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels will undergo an MRI on Monday, October 30, 2023, after suffering a hamstring injury during a critical moment in the team’s 44-22 loss against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. The injury occurred midway through the third quarter when Daniels’ right leg turned awkwardly while being sacked, leading to a fumble that proved pivotal in the game.
Commanders head coach Dan Quinn confirmed that Daniels “felt something” in his hamstring prior to exiting the game, but refrained from providing specific details about the injury. “I just don’t want to say one way or another, and not give the accurate info on that,” Quinn stated, referring to the planned MRI for the second-year QB.
After being sacked by rookie linebacker Shemar James, Daniels was seen grabbing at the back of his leg. He managed to walk gingerly to the sideline before entering the medical tent. Following a brief evaluation, he jogged through the bench area and headed into the locker room with the Commanders trailing 27-15.
“He definitely wanted back in,” Quinn added, highlighting Daniels’ determination.
The injury came at a challenging time for the Commanders, who were already missing their top three receivers. Before leaving the game, Daniels completed 12 of 22 passes for 156 yards and one touchdown. His performance this season has been notable, with 89 completions on 146 attempts for 1,031 yards, including eight touchdowns and just one interception.
Following Daniels’ exit, veteran quarterback Marcus Mariota stepped in, completing 4 of 10 passes for 63 yards but also throwing an interception that was returned 68 yards for a touchdown by DaRon Bland. This play extended the Cowboys’ lead to 41-15, further complicating the Commanders’ efforts to mount a comeback.
Daniels has faced a challenging season, having missed two previous games due to a left knee injury, with the Commanders going 1-1 under Mariota during his absence. “It’s tough. He’s been battling all year, and I know that can be very frustrating,” Mariota commented, emphasizing the emotional toll on his teammate.
The Commanders, now sitting at 3-4 for the season, are in urgent need of stability as they look to regain momentum in the coming weeks. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely for updates on Daniels’ condition following the MRI, with implications for both his future and the team’s playoff aspirations.
As the situation develops, the Commanders will need to prepare for potential challenges ahead, making the health of their starting quarterback a top priority. Stay tuned for further updates as we monitor this breaking story.
