Rivalry Showdowns Heat Up in Texas High School Football Week 9

As the Texas high school football season enters Week 9, critical rivalry games will shape the district standings for several teams. Notably, the matchup between the Frisco Wakeland and Frisco Lone Star teams promises to be a thrilling contest, highlighting the competitive nature of District 5-5A Division I. Both teams currently boast undefeated records, with Wakeland holding a slight edge, sitting one game ahead of Lone Star.
The anticipated clash will take place on Friday night at David Kuykendall Stadium. In their previous encounter, Wakeland triumphed with a dramatic finish, overcoming a 59-56 deficit in the final moments. This was marked by a game-winning 100-yard fumble return from defensive end Austin Wilson, handing Lone Star its first district loss since 2022. The stakes are high as both teams vie for supremacy in the district.
Davian Groce, a standout wide receiver for Lone Star and ranked No. 3 in the Class of 2026, has made significant contributions since returning from injury. He has accumulated 496 yards and seven touchdowns on just 20 receptions, showcasing his ability to change the game.
In another pivotal district, the competition intensifies in District 11-6A, often referred to as the “District of Doom.” Here, teams like Waxahachie, Cedar Hill, Duncanville, and DeSoto are locked in a fierce four-way tie for the top position. This Friday, Cedar Hill will face off against its longtime rival, DeSoto, in a matchup that promises to be electrifying. Known as The Battle of the Belt, this rivalry has been ongoing since 2011, with DeSoto claiming victory in 11 of the last 16 meetings, including five consecutive wins.
The outcome of this game could ultimately determine who remains in contention for the district title, as both teams are eager to solidify their playoff positions. DeSoto’s Ethan Feaster, a wide receiver and USC commitment, has been a key player this season, amassing 773 yards and nine touchdowns to date.
In District 3-5A Division I, Aledo remains a formidable force, currently undefeated in the district. They narrowly defeated Richland 48-42 in an overtime thriller, with running back Raycine Guillory scoring the game-winning touchdown. Aledo’s success has placed them atop the standings alongside Denton Ryan, while Richland sits in third place.
The District 6-6A title will also be contested this Friday when Allen faces Prosper. Allen secured a decisive victory against Prosper in their last meeting, winning 22-7 in 2024. This year, Allen aims to replicate that success, buoyed by the talents of wide receiver Caleb Smith and quarterback Braeden Imhoff, who has accumulated 1,899 passing yards and 18 touchdowns this season.
As playoff season approaches, several games within District 4-5A Division II will have significant implications. Frisco Emerson will take on Melissa at Coach Kenny Deel Stadium, with Emerson ranked third in the district, trailing Anna and Lovejoy, who are both tied for second. The performance of running back Cam Newton, who leads the area with 1,256 rushing yards and an impressive 22 touchdowns, will be crucial for Emerson’s playoff aspirations.
As these rivalries unfold, high school football in Texas continues to captivate fans and shape the future of young athletes across the state. As teams battle for district titles, the excitement and stakes are higher than ever.
