Jennifer Ott Transitions from Alameda City Manager to Hayward

Jennifer Ott is set to leave her role as City Manager of Alameda for a new position in Hayward, where she will resume a familiar role. The transition was announced this week, with Ott scheduled to start her new post on December 8, 2023.
Ott’s history with Hayward began long before her tenure in Alameda, where she served as both Deputy City Manager and Assistant City Manager. Her experience in local government spans over 25 years, particularly within Alameda County, making her well-equipped to navigate the challenges that lie ahead.
Commendations and Future Plans
Both cities have expressed appreciation for Ott’s contributions. Mayor Mark Salinas of Hayward welcomed her back, stating, “The Council and I are thrilled to welcome Ms. Ott back to Hayward.” Her leadership has been recognized, particularly during her time in Alameda, which began in November 2022.
Alameda Mayor Marilyn Ezzy Ashcraft highlighted Ott’s impact on the city, saying, “Jen has been an outstanding City Manager, and we will miss her.” Following Ott’s departure, the Alameda City Council is expected to appoint an interim City Manager in January 2024.
Ott expressed her enthusiasm about returning to Hayward, stating, “I am very excited for the opportunity to join former and new colleagues at the City of Hayward and meet the immediate challenges and future opportunities together.”
Her academic background and extensive experience in local governance align well with the needs of the City of Hayward, positioning her to effectively tackle the responsibilities of her new role.
