Carol Stent, Beloved Companion and Advocate, Passes Away at 86

Carol A. Stent, a cherished wife and devoted companion, passed away peacefully in her sleep on **September 22, 2025**, at her home in **Overton, Nevada**. She was surrounded by her loving husband, **David Y. Nakahara**, at the time of her passing. Carol’s life journey was marked by adventure, resilience, and a deep commitment to those around her.
Early Life and Education
Born on **July 14, 1939**, in **Cambridge, Massachusetts**, Carol was the daughter of **John and Jenny (Slajinsky) Prespolis**. She graduated from **Saint Mary’s of the Annunciation (SMA)** in the Class of 1957, where she formed lasting friendships with her classmates and the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, who played a pivotal role in her education.
As the eldest of seven siblings, which included three brothers and three sisters, Carol was a natural leader. Her adventurous spirit led her to **San Francisco, California**, where she and four classmates pursued their careers and eventually found love. Carol’s striking beauty and zest for life made a lasting impression on those she met.
Career and Personal Life
After her time in San Francisco, Carol moved to **Los Angeles, California**, where she caught the attention of **Raymond Michael Stent**, a medical intern from England. They married at **Wayfarers Chapel** following Raymond’s successful completion of his residency at **U.C.L.A.** and his board certification in neurology. The couple enjoyed a life filled with shared experiences until their divorce in the 1980s.
Following her separation from Raymond, Carol found love once more with David Nakahara, a lawyer practicing in **Torrance, California**. They married on **May 20, 1989**, in a ceremony in **Las Vegas, Nevada**. Together, they created a loving home, raising a total of seventeen pets that Carol affectionately referred to as their “fur babies.” This commitment to nurturing extended to David’s aging parents, for whom Carol provided invaluable support and care.
Despite facing the challenges of recovering from a stroke that left her partially paralyzed, Carol remained a source of light and strength for those around her. Her passion for life was evident in her love for all creatures, great and small, and her unwavering dedication to her family.
Carol is survived by her husband, David Nakahara, and her sisters **Paula Couture** of **Dracut, Massachusetts** and **Naples, Florida**, **Janet Buchino** of **Randolph, Massachusetts** and **Naples, Florida**, and **Helen Botehlo** of **Conway, South Carolina**. Her legacy of compassion, humor, and love will be remembered by all who knew her.
In her passing, we celebrate Carol A. Stent’s remarkable life and the joy she brought to those around her. As she once stated, “Soli Deo Gloria,” meaning “Only to God the Glory.”
